July 10th- Day 4 : Refining the Proposals

  1.

The meeting focused on evaluating and refining project ideas. Chris proposed reviewing ideas with low votes to decide their viability. Key ideas discussed included a blast cleaning device, an automatic scoreboard, a fish hamster ball, a Tony Stark backpack, a real-life color picker, an AI sewing pattern generator, and a floating drum.

Participants debated the practicality and usefulness of these concepts, with some expressing interest in fighting for certain ideas. A new idea proposed was a mobile vehicle that deploys spike strips to hinder opponents, with discussions on its practicality and application in specific environments.

The meeting focused on defining a minimum viable product (MVP) to test quickly and pivot if necessary. Teams were advised to split tasks based on individual interests and communicate effectively using platforms like WhatsApp, Slack, or Discord. Team leaders are to send an email from their team emails to access a shared Google Drive folder for project documentation. Emphasis was placed on the importance of researching previous projects and leveraging existing work. Teams were reminded of the 14 four-hour days available for their projects, with final presentations scheduled for the last week. A team journal was recommended to record all discussions and ideas.

Action Items

  • Determine the minimum viable product (MVP) or the least valuable component that needs to be built first.
  • Discuss how to split up the work among the team members based on their interests and expertise.
  • Research similar projects that have been done before to learn from them.
  • Decide on a communication method (e.g., WhatsApp, Slack, Discord) and set up a shared Google Drive folder.
  • Document all ideas and discussions in a team journal.
  • Complete the project within the 14 four-hour day timeline before the final presentation.

The conversation revolves around a team discussing a project involving a model of the solar system that moves based on sound and includes UV light for a glowing effect. Ed Moriarty emphasized the importance of focusing on essential aspects of the project and not getting bogged down in unnecessary details. They discuss the scale and accuracy of the model, with Jonathan noting that planets would be almost invisible if the solar system were to scale. The team considers starting with a simpler model, like a planet, and gradually expanding. They also touch on the potential for using the model for levitation and other creative applications.

Action Items

[ ] Explore starting with a simpler model, such as just the Earth and Moon, to test the feasibility of the concept.
[ ] Investigate different mechanisms and approaches to create the desired movement and lighting effects, without getting overly complex.
[ ] Consider expanding the concept beyond just a solar system model to represent other natural phenomena that could be visually interesting.

The meeting focused on assigning mentors to projects and addressing technical concerns. Chris emphasized the importance of mentors choosing teams they are comfortable with and finding projects interesting. Tony was suggested to help with a project involving a microphone and speaker, while Jose was designated as a permanent mentor for a team working on a solar system model.

Technical issues discussed included the need for a solar panel for the hydrogen car, the feasibility of the project table, and the team's coding and electronics skills. Lucas and Francesca were highlighted for their technical experience, particularly with Raspberry Pi. The team was advised to manage project size and complexity to ensure feasibility.
